A tree surgeon really has 'seen the light' after chopping down a tree to allow more sunlight into a customer's home - only to discover the face of Jesus peering back at him. Callum Johnson's jaw dropped when he immediately spotted the iconic image of the son of God staring back at him from the growth rings of the tree.
A striking image of the Christ-like face in the log decay shows a clearly-defined head, eyes, nose, moustache, beard and flowing locks. The 16-year-old apprentice said he and the four-strong team, some of whom have been in the industry for 40 years, had never seen anything like it before.
Callum quipped that the site may become a place of pilgrimage in future. After sharing the snap on social media it went viral, racking up more than 222,000 likes, shares and comments.
Callum said: "We were cutting a big poplar tree down, which was about 131ft tall as it was blocking sunlight to the [nearby] houses. As my colleague was cutting through the branch it fell on the floor and I instantly noticed the face of Jesus.
"We all looked at it and I thought 'oh my god', it was amazing. It was pretty clearly defined - you could see the eyes and the beard. I'm not religious myself but after seeing that I may be open to considering it.
"I've never seen anything like this before. My colleagues said that in their 40 years of doing it they'd never seen [anything similar] either."
Since sharing the religious lookalike online, Callum's post has been flooded with people agreeing on the likeness - but also suggesting the face looks like Rasputin, Jim Morrison, Kenny Rogers and Bob Ross. Callum said: "Some people have been saying it looks like Bob Ross, people have suggested I sell it on eBay for loads of money.
"At this rate, it could become a place of pilgrimage. I'll definitely keep an eye out for this kind of thing in future."
Callum shared the picture on Facebook with the caption 'I'm a tree surgeon and found this in the decay of a log'.
Thrilled social media users shared comments, agreeing that it did look like Jesus, writing 'amen' in response - and a whole host of other famous beardy blokes.
One wrote: "Amen."
Another commented: "Kenny Rogers."
One wrote: "Jim Morrison."
Another commented 'Finally, the little trees painted him' alongside a picture of Bob Ross.
