Netflix is gearing up to release yet another exciting original series, as the spy thriller Treason drops on the platform later this month. The MI6 drama promises to be a suspense-filled treat perfect for a TV binge over the festive season.

The limited series is created by Oscar-nominated Matt Charman, writer of Tom Hanks fronted Cold War film Bridge of Spies. Described by Deadline as The Bodyguard meets John Le Carre, expect a host of spy thrills and plot twists that will force you to “question everything [and] suspect everyone”.

Here we break down everything you need to know about Treason.

What is it about?

Trained and groomed by MI6, Adam Lawrence’s career seems set. But when the past catches up with him in the form of Kara, a Russian spy with whom he shares a complicated past, he is forced to question everything and everyone in his life.

A triangular relationship forms between Kara, Adam and his wife, Maddy; three people who are trying to expose each other’s secrets, navigate political and diplomatic relationships, whilst hanging onto their personal lives, and those they love most.

Who are the cast?

Charlie Cox fronts the show as MI6 agent Adam Lawrence. Cox is best known for his three-season stint as Matt Murdock in Netflix and Marvel’s Daredevil.

The British actor reprised his role as The Man Without Fear in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and is set to return once again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) Daredevil: Born Again in 2024.

He stars alongside Ciarán Hinds as MI6 chief Sir Martin Angelis, who is removed from his post following an assassination attempt. The Northern Irish thespian recently bagged an Oscar nomination for his role in Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast and also appeared as Albus Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth in the final Harry Potter film.

Russian spy Kara is played by Ukrainian-born Olga Kurylenko. The actress starred as masked villain Taskmaster in the MCU’s Black Widow, and also starred opposite Daniel Craig in his second Bond outing, Quantum of Solace.

Oona Chaplin portrays Adam’s wife Maddy. The actress is the granddaughter of actor-comedian Charlie Chaplin and is perhaps best known as Robb Stark’s ill-fated wife Talisa in Game of Thrones.

Also appearing is Rogue One actress Beau Gadsdon as Andrew’s young daughter Ella.

When is Treason released?

All five episodes of Treason are available to stream on Netflix from Monday, December 26 at 8am.
