Billboards promoting Travis Scott’s upcoming album appeared near the festival grounds for Coachella, where the rapper was previously expected to perform.
The artist’s ”Utopia” album has been postponed since 10 people were killed after the crowd surged at Scott’s Astroworld music festival in Houston last November, according to Variety.
There’s still no official release date for “Utopia,” but Variety reports the four billboards teasing the album include one that reads “Looking for UTOPIA?” and another that says “WRONG WAY!” on the highway going away from Coachella’s site in Indio, California.
Scott was scheduled to perform as a headliner at Coachella in 2020, but the festival was canceled that year and in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 30-year-old Scott wasn’t announced as a headliner for the 2022 festival, but TMZ reported he was expected to perform during Kanye West’s set before West dropped out of Coachella earlier this month.
It would have been Scott’s first performance at a festival since the Astroworld tragedy.
Scott, who is from Houston, said in December that he wasn’t aware the crowd was surging as he performed at his Astroworld event, telling radio host Charlamagne tha God, “You can only help what you can see.”
“As artists, we trust professionals to make sure that things happen and that people leave safely,” Scott said during that interview. “This night was just a regular show, it felt like to me. People didn’t show up there to just be harmful. People just showed up to have a good time, and something unfortunate happened.”
The rapper, who is known for songs such as “Sicko Mode” and “Goosebumps,” offered to cover the funeral costs of the victims and vowed to refund the 50,000 fans who attended the Astroworld festival.
The 2022 edition of Coachella is set to take place during the back-to-back weekends of April 15-17 and April 22-24. Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia will headline the festival, while Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat and Karol G are among the big names also slated to perform.
