American rapper Travis Scott was released from police custody in Paris on Saturday without charges after getting into a fight with his bodyguard the day before. The incident occurred at the George V luxury hotel in Paris, where police were called to break up the altercation at 5 a.m. on Friday. Scott was arrested following an alleged attack on a security guard who intervened during the fight, as reported by a police spokesman. However, the case was ultimately dismissed due to a lack of evidence to support the alleged offense, according to the city’s prosecutor’s office.
Travis Scott, also known as Jacques Bermon Webster, had been in Paris for the Olympic Games and had attended the men’s basketball semi-final between the United States and Serbia on Thursday. The rapper had recently concluded the European leg of his Circus Maximus tour in Lisbon, Portugal, after performing at various arenas across North America and Europe, including a show at Tottenham Hotspur’s soccer stadium in London.
Scott, a prominent figure in the rap industry, has received multiple Grammy Award nominations, including a recent nod for Best Rap Album for his 2023 release “Utopia.” Despite his musical success, he has had encounters with law enforcement in the past. In June, he was arrested in Miami on charges of trespass and disorderly intoxication.
Travis Scott's live performances are known for their high energy and at times have led to incidents, such as the tragic Astroworld Festival in 2021 where 10 people lost their lives. While he was cleared of criminal charges related to the festival by the Harris County District Attorney’s office, he continues to face civil lawsuits from the families of the victims.
