Country music legend Garth Brooks has extended an invitation to Kansas City Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce to sing his rendition of 'Friends in Low Places' at the grand opening of Brooks' new bar. Kelce's impromptu performance of the classic hit during the Chiefs' Super Bowl LVIII victory parade caught Brooks' attention, prompting the special invitation.
Brooks expressed his admiration for Kelce's performance on his podcast, 'Inside Studio G,' and offered to send a plane for Kelce to attend the grand opening on March 7. The 62-year-old singer and his wife, Trisha Yearwood, were not planning to be present at the event initially but are now willing to make an exception for Kelce.
During the parade, Kelce entertained the crowd with his rendition of 'Friends in Low Places,' making a playful reference to the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Despite stumbling over some lyrics, Kelce's performance was well-received by the audience, with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes even joining in on the chorus.
Tragically, the parade ended in violence, with two shooters causing harm to multiple attendees. In response to the incident, Kelce's charity, Eighty-Seven Running, donated $100,000 to support the victims and their families. Kelce also contributed to fundraising efforts for individuals affected by the shooting, including a radio DJ who lost her life.
Following the shooting, two suspects were charged with second-degree murder and other offenses related to the incident. The suspects have been hospitalized and are currently in custody on a one million dollar bond.
In a show of solidarity and support, Kelce's girlfriend, Taylor Swift, also made a generous donation to aid those impacted by the tragic events at the parade. The community has rallied together to provide assistance and resources for the victims and their families, emphasizing the importance of violence prevention and mental health services.
