Travellers warned as Turkey travel guidance changes

The UK Foreign Office has changed its advice for people travelling to Turkey ahead of the Champions League final.

Manchester City will take on Inter Milan in the final in Istanbul on Saturday (June 10). The game will kick off at 8pm UK time.

On Monday, Gov.uk guidance was amended to include alerts for those travelling to Turkey this week. People are being warned to plan ahead and to arrive well in advance of the match kick-off.

An update reads: "Istanbul will stage the UEFA Champions League Final (UCL23) on Saturday 10th June, with Manchester City and Inter Milan in the final. If you are travelling to Istanbul for UCL23, you are encouraged to read our Travel Advice and sign up for Travel Advice email alerts.

"You should plan your movement around the city to arrive at the Manchester City dedicated fan zone or stadium well in advance of the match kick-off, follow the instructions of the local authorities, take care of your personal possessions including passports, especially in crowds and on public transport."

Previous information regarding a state of emergency in parts of Turkey has also been removed. Following earthquakes that devastated the south east of the country back in February, UK travellers had been advised to "avoid the immediate vicinity" of the incident and to "follow information from local authorities and your tour operator".
