Travellers pitched up on Nottinghamshire rugby field, club says

A Nottinghamshire rugby club says travellers pitched up within its fields. Southwell Rugby Club said it was in contact with relevant authorities over their presence on its grounds off Park Lane.

In a statement posted on social media on Monday, July 10, the club warned people to stay clear of the grounds until further notice. "We are aware that a group of travellers has taken up camp at the Rugby club.

"We are currently working with the relevant authorities as required," it said on Twitter. "Please stay clear of the the club and grounds until further notice."

It comes less than a week after a traveller encampment was set up on football pitches at Dave Eastwood Sports Ground in Nottingham. Children were unable to train and play games according to one parent, who said they had been left "devastated".

The club issued an update later on Monday evenings, which said: "The travellers have now vacated the club grounds and we will be cleaning the site and checking the pitches Please avoid the club and grounds until further notice."
