Travellers pitch up at popular Nottinghamshire recreation ground

A group of travellers have pitched up at the Pastures Road Recreation ground, in Stapleford, with a number of caravans and vehicles spotted on the site. At least seven caravans have been set up on the field in Broxtowe.

A photo of the field on Friday evening, July 7, shows at least seven caravans parked on the field. According to the Broxtowe Borough Council website, the Pastures Road site also has a pavilion and two senior football pitches.

It also includes a mini football pitch and play area. A new stone surfaced perimeter footpath to provide access to all park entrances was installed in 2015.

It comes after a group of travellers was spotted on Dave Eastwood Sports Ground, off Lenton Lane, on Tuesday, July 4. On the morning of Wednesday, July 5, several caravans were stationed on the pitch of the Pelican Colts football club, items had been littered across the playing field, and benches had been broken.

And on July 3, a Nottinghamshire school said it would open later than normal so it can evict a group of travellers from its site. Chilwell School on Queens Road West has been impacted by another traveller encampment being set up this weekend (July 1-2).

Travellers visiting Nottingham have opened up in the past about their lifestyle to Nottinghamshire Live.
