Passengers can take food through airport security in the UK - but they must follow a set of strict rules.
There are restrictions on what items you can take in your hand luggage when boarding a plane in the UK. One common question that is often asked on travel forums is 'Can I take food through airport security?'.
You can carry solid foods, such as cakes, fruit, vegetables, sandwiches in your hand baggage. However, foods in sauces or with a high liquid content, such as sauces, pastes, soups and stews cannot come through security.

There are restrictions on the amount of liquids you can take in your hand luggage. Liquid or semi-liquid foods, for example soup, jam, honey and syrups are also subject to these rules.
Liquids in containers larger than 100ml generally cannot go through security even if the container is only part full.
If you do take 100ml liquids in your hand luggage you must make sure containers must be in a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag, which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm, the contents must fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be sealed and the bag must not be knotted or tied at the top.
You're also limited to one plastic bag per person.
It's worth noting that food items and powders in your hand luggage can obstruct images on x-ray machines. Your bags may need to be checked again manually by security - so leave plenty of time.
