Travel rules for Spain, Italy, France and Greece as holiday hotspots prepare for summer

The summer holidays are right round the corner and Spain, Italy, Greece and France are preparing for an influx of tourists.

For many, this summer might be the first getaway experienced since the coronavirus pandemic began in 2020.

Countries around the world enforced restrictions and travel rules in a bid to control the spread of the virus and as many travellers experienced first hand, these rules often change within days.

Before jetting off, it's important to brush up on the requirements and covid rules for your holiday.

While Scotland has dropped mandatory face masks on public transport, some countries still enforce it which means you will need to wear one on the plane.

Here are the travel rules for Spain, Italy, Greece and France as of the time of writing.

Spain

Spain has recently changed their entry requirements to allow those who aren't fully vaccinated in for the first time since 2020.

All travellers need to show either;

Proof of vaccination.

Proof of covid recovery within the last six months.

Proof of negative covid test with either a PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to departure or an antigen test taken within 24 hours before.

Gov.uk also points out that if you have not received a booster, but have received two doses of a two-dose vaccine or one dose of a single-dose vaccine, then at least 14 days and no more than 270 days must have passed since your last dose, to qualify as fully vaccinated.

Those who are under 12 years of age, fully vaccinated or can show proof of recovering from covid do not have to fill in a Health Control Form - everyone else over the age of 12 does.

Italy

Regardless of vaccination status, Italy does not require travellers to fill out a passenger locator form, or show proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or covid status.

All passengers entering Italy by plane, ferry, train or coach must wear an FFP2 mask in order to enter the country.

Greece

Like Italy, tourists are required to wear face masks on public transport and so you must wear a mask on the plane going over and returning.

Passengers arriving in Greece do not need to show a proof of covid vaccination, a negative covid test, or a certificate of recovery from covid. You do not need to complete a Passenger Locator Form.

France

All fully vaccinated tourists over the age of 12 must provide proof of vaccination.

If you had your second dose nine months ago, you will need your booster to be considered fully covered.

Those who are not fully vaccinated need to show a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours or an antigen test result taken within 48 hours pre-departure.

All travellers may be asked to complete the EU-PLF form before boarding.
