Simon Calder has given a very welcome 'trick' specifically for North East families to help reduce the cost of their summer holiday this year and it involves changing the airport you fly from.
The travel expert, a regular guest on Lorraine and This Morning, during the Covid pandemic, as he attempted to bring viewers up to speed on travel restrictions for countries across the world, as the traffic light system came into place for overseas travel. And, then when restrictions eased, he appeared again to try and source some good deals for Brits to have a much needed break away.
Simon was back on Lorraine on Tuesday, right as Lorraine Kelly returned after an operation and, as well as discussing how prices of food and drink in increasingly popular destinations like North Macedonia had 'gone back to the 80s,' offered up a simple but potentially very lucrative hack into not shelling out more than you'd like for your 2023 summer holiday.

Discussing how prices can rocket over the school summer break, Simon explained that if families were willing to 'cross the border' and do a bit of travelling, they were likely to save a hefty wad of cash.
Sharing his tip with Lorraine, he said: "If you're lucky enough to live in southern Scotland or northern England, then play the difference in the school holidays."
The school holidays in Scotland start earlier than England, with pupils going back in August and, explaining how they could pay dividends, Simon added: "If you're in southern Scotland, go in early July, but head down to Newcastle or Manchester airport and fly from there.
"If you're in northern England, wait 'til late August and then go across the border to Prestwick, Glasgow or Edinburgh and fly from there."
Assuring viewers that the tactic would pay off, he added: "If you can do that then you are going to absolutely guarantee a better deal than most people in southern England will be able to find."
