Travel expert shows how easy it is for thieves to break into your zipped suitcase

A travel expert has explained how easy it is for thieves to get into your luggage. Sarah Adekola, a TikTok user who goes by @millennialwealthsarah, has issued advice to travellers to prevent their valuables from being stolen.

In a recent clip, she shows how easy it is to access a zipped suitcase using just a pen. It can be forced into the zipper and then pushed through.

As reported by The Mirror, this creates a gap between the two edges of the zip. This then leads to the whole bag opening up - even if there is a padlock attached.

Sarah explains: "First never pick suitcases with zippers like this because people are literally stealing your stuff with just a pen. Basically what people are doing is they're taking their pen and they are literally just pushing in between there."

"And they're getting into your suitcase. Then what they do is when you have a padlock they are going to go over it (the hole) and you would never know."

She went on to explain what qualities she looks for in a travel bag. Sarah recommends darker-coloured suitcases that are made from harder materials. She also opts for a bag with wheels so that they're easier to move. Sarah adds that it is now possible to buy bags without zips.

She said: "I would also go for suitcase brands that give me a lifetime warranty or at least five years." According to news.com.au, asking for a 'fragile' sticker to be put on your luggage is also a good idea.

As well as earning your bag gentler treatment, it may also speed up your wait time as the sticker affects the order in which your bags are packed onto the plane. Baggage tagged as being fragile will go into the plane last, which means it comes out the other side first, which equals less time to wait at the dreaded carousel.
