A travel expert has burst the 'false belief' that holidaymakers can book cheaper flights by opting to jet off on a Tuesday.
According to the expert, James Brockbank, Editor at The Family Vacation Guide, cheap flight deals can pop up for any day of the week - it's just a matter of looking in the right places.
There is some truth to the myth as Tuesdays are often 'off-peak', but equally cheap or cheaper deals could be available on Wednesdays or Thursdays
James explained: "The old Tuesday cliché is a false belief that is still being spread today. Truth is this: the ideal day to buy flights is whenever you find a good offer; Tuesday is not always the cheapest day. Low-cost flights can become available every day of the week, at any hour.
"Finding a fantastic deal is more about using the appropriate tools. Airline ticket prices fluctuate frequently to attract more customers and undercut their rivals."
Instead, the expert suggests using a free travel search engine. An example of this would be Skyscanner, which scrapes the internet for the best available travel rates.
James also recommends using a VPN if you have one, as changing your VPN location to the country you’re flying to can help bring down prices.
However, you must pay using a card that doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees and check the conversion beforehand to ensure you save money.
Additionally, James says that connecting flights are cheaper due to the convenience of flying directly to your destination.
He comments: "You can plan connections yourself to work out the cheapest route to your destination; however, ensure to double-check airport codes to see if you need to change airports.
"When travelling with check-in luggage, you could be required to go through the check-in security process at your stopover.
"If a stop-over location is somewhere you want to explore, you can extend your stay there and fit in an extra stop on your travels for a little extra cost."
