Scots rail passengers are set to have to endure more travel chaos after no agreement was reached during the latest round of negotiations over wages.
The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers ( RMT ) announced on Twitter today that their negotiating team were 'disappointed' with Scotrail bosses after they allegedly failed to make an improved pay offer. They say that the same five per cent increase was offered again after having been rejected in August.
RMT members will now begin an overtime ban in Scotland from midnight tomorrow, as the industrial action looks set to continue.
The RMT announced in September that industrial action would begin on the railways in Scotland after the five per cent offer was rejected at a meeting with Scotrail bosses in September.
The union rejected the original pay offer out of hand whilst inflation is running at well over 11 per cent during the cost-of-living crisis, and their members subsequently voted to strike
Chaos hit Scots rail networks in the weekend past, with a Network Rail strike affecting services on October 8 and 9 and the RMT strike took place on Monday, October 10.
Announcing the overtime ban tonight, the RMT demanded that Scotrail 'make a pay offer which acknowledges the rising cost of living.'
A spokesperson said: "The RMT negotiating team met with ScotRail bosses today and are disappointed by their failure to make an improved pay offer.
"ScotRail proposed the same 5% offer which has already been rejected in a referendum, in a ballot for industrial action, and unanimously by our company council representatives.
"RMT members will begin an overtime ban at 00.01 tomorrow. Scotland’s railway bosses need to get serious and make a pay offer which acknowledges the rising cost of living."
Scotrail advised customers to expect more disruption due to the RMT overtime ban.
A spokesperson said: "Due to an overtime ban by RMT members of ScotRail, we're advising customers to expect some cancellations to services.
"We will provide as much information as possible on which services are affected across our social media channels, website & app."
