Eurostar travellers face delays and cancellations after the UK high speed line was closed for repair work.

Among the cancelled trains were the 2001 on Tuesday to Paris with at least another seven trains delayed by as much as four hours.

The train company told travellers “please do not travel today unless urgent” and that “delays will affect remaining services.”

The damage to overhead wires between Stratford International and Ebbsfleet International was also affecting Southeastern trains.

One traveller who complained online said they should have been on a train from St Pancras to Amsterdam but had to get to Heathrow instead to try to catch a flight “thanks to total chaos on the high speed line out of London today.”

Another traveller, Richard Smith, posted pictures of long queues and said the passenger lounge “must’ve been intolerable” while “passport control is backed up”.
