Travel advice issued for Lanarkshire concert-goers attending Glasgow gigs

ScotRail has issued travel advice ahead of a big weekend of live music on Glasgow’s southside.

Superstar DJ Calvin Harris is performing at Hampden Stadium on Saturday, July 2, while veteran rockers Primal Scream are playing Queens Park tomorrow, July 1 and Saturday.

Meanwhile US rock band Red Hot Chilli Peppers are also playing tomorrow, at Bellahouston Park.

ScotRail is urging travellers heading to the events to leave early, allow plenty of time for their journey, and to consider their options when heading home.

To help cope with demand, extra carriages have been added to as many trains as possible on Glasgow to Mount Florida trains on Saturday. This is the closest station to Hampden Park.

Gates at Hampden will open at 4pm, so Calvin Harris fans are encouraged to get to the stadium early as trains will be very busy.

Regular commuters who use Neilston and Dumbreck services should also be aware that trains may be much busier than normal on Friday, with people travelling to see Primal Scream and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Customers are also encouraged to buy their tickets on the ScotRail app before they board, in order to reduce queues on the day.

And concert-goers are being reminded that there will be no trains back to Glasgow Central after the concerts. This is due to the temporary timetable that is in place.

Extra staff will be on hand to assist, and customers are also being reminded that the carrying and consumption of alcohol is prohibited on ScotRail trains and in ScotRail stations.

The last train to depart Glasgow on Saturday, July 2 to Lanarkshire is the 23:17 to East Kilbride. There will be a number of late-night buses running from the city centre.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail head of customer operations, said: “We’re urging everyone who’s travelling to see Calvin Harris at Hampden Park, or Primal Scream at Queen’s Park Recreational Ground, this weekend to plan ahead, check their journey, and consider their travel options.

“To help people get to the gigs, we’ll be adding extra carriages to trains from Glasgow Central to Mount Florida, however, these services are expected to be very busy, so we’d encourage customers to travel early if they can.

“Customers should be aware that there will be no trains from Mount Florida, Kings Park, or Queen Park back to Glasgow after the concerts finishes, so please check your entire journey and know what alternative transport is available.

"A queuing system will be in place at Glasgow Central before events, and we’ll have extra staff there to help and direct you.”
