#TrashTag Challenge Goes Viral As People Share Before/After Photos Of Their Cleanup

#trashtag challenge photos by Byron Román on Facebook, which prompted a resurgence of the #trashtag challenge

A new challenge has gone viral and this one is prompting people around the world to clean up their nearby green areas and post before/after photos.

The space in which we live should be for the person we are becoming now, not for the person we were in the past. – Marie Kondō.

The challenge, started on social media has made it around the world and encouraged people to get outside and help to clean up the environment. The trashtag challenge is an effort to clean up litter and trash on beaches, roadsides, parks, etc.

Another trashtag challenge where a large family cleaned up a littered beach.

Unlike some of the other more recent challenges, this one makes people feel good about themselves and the environment around them and helps to clean up spaces for others. As thousands of people go outdoors to help clear trash and litter, they help people focus on taking care of their community for future generations and others.

The challenge is thought to have been started by the outdoor gear company UCO Gear in 2015 but since then fell off in popularity. Recently, a post by Byron Román on Facebook reignited the challenge as he encouraged bored youth to get outside and clean up their community.

In the viral post, which has 324,000 shares and 97,000 likes on Facebook he said ”Here is a new #challenge for all you bored teens. Take a photo of an area that needs some cleaning or maintenance, then take a photo after you have done something about it, and post it. Here are the people doing it #BasuraChallenge #trashtag Challenge, join the cause. #BasuraChallengeAZ”

Here’s another example from Nepal as the #trashtag challenge has gone global. This is a challenge we can all get behind. We’ve all seen litter on the roads, in parks and green areas. A cleaner community is a happier community and we should all take pride in the places we live in.

r/trees sub-reddit also encourages cannabis users to clean the areas they use while smoking.

Another interesting version of a similar challenge appears on the r/trees sub-reddit. Here, people get together in their favorite place to smoke cannabis, light up and begin to clean the area of litter.
