Work is well underway to transform a closed down pub in Beeston. The White Lion will be turned into two new venues by Lincoln Green Brewing Company, both with cask ales at the heart. The pub had been closed for around three years.
The White Lion will remain a traditional pub on the Middle Street side with bi-fold doors giving a view of the garden. The other two thirds of the building, with an entrance off Station Road, is being remodelled into a contemporary pub restaurant called Blackshale Bar & Kitchen.
Freshly prepared dishes will be paired with a range of craft beers from the Hucknall-based brewery - with bosses saying "we passionately believe that beer is a better match for food than wine and we want to show you."

An opening for July is planned but followers have been given a sneak peek of a draft menu, asking for thoughts. "We're looking to offer a cut above the classic pub grub without being too gastro," they said.
Examples include starters of chicken ragout in dark beer sauce, potted Morecambe Bay brown shrimps, and twice baked goat's cheese souffle. Mains could include porchetta, pan-fried duck breast, baked hake and harissa-baked cauliflower.
Light bites and sandwiches ae also planned such as coronation chicken on flatbread and falafel pitta. A separate menu will feature vegan options such as fattoush with spiced chickpeas, and mushroom wellington.
Bosses confirmed there won't be a pool table - and not just because there's insufficient room. "They're not really our thing; we're all about great beer and conversation, just like in all our other pubs."
