Saliba 'a top target' for Real Madrid

15:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Real Madrid's Premier League recruitment drive doesn't appear to be stopping at Trent Alexander-Arnold with reports claiming they have earmarked Arsenal's William Saliba as a top target.

The Frenchman has regarded as one of the best young central defenders in Europe and is enjoying yet another consistent season with the Gunners.

As a result, his form has caught the attention of the biggest club in the world.

In fact, Spanish outlet SPORT claim Los Blancos could launch a bid to sign Saliba at the end of the season.

However, the report states they will likely have to fork out at least £83million - which would be a world record fee for a defender, eclipsing the £80million Manchester United paid Leicester City for Harry Maguire.

Not registered for Chelsea's Conference League squad for the group stages, the second half of the season will look the same for Chilwell as Maresca has previously said he does not plan to change his stance.

However, an exit isn't straightforward as the 28-year-old, who earns about £190,000 a week, will not take a pay cut, according to the Sun.

14:28 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

From Dani Olmo and Mohammed Kudus to Randal Kolo Muani and Omar Marmoush, just to name a few, the Arsenal transfer rumour mill is heating up and Mikel Arteta has addressed whether the club could dip into the market this month,

“Let’s see. If there’s an opportunity we will look at it,” he told reporters after the 3-1 win over Brentford on New Year’s Day.

"Let’s see how we get there. Hopefully, the squad is going to be in a much healthier position than it is right now, but who knows?

"We are prepared if we need to do something, we’re capable of doing something, but then that transfer window is very tricky and difficult to control,” he added.

“The opportunities are very limited but we’ll be there."

'Shock' Dejan Kulusevski exit

14:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Tottenham's Dejan Kulusevski is reportedly in talks over ‘shock exit’.

The Sweden international has easily been Spurs' best player this season, but is apparently interested in a change of scenery due to the club's indifferent form - with contacts already made over his next move.

According to MilanLive, Zlatan Ibrahimovic - who is now an advisor at AC Milan - has begun sounding out Kulusevski over a return to Serie A. The Rossoneri are said to want to sign the 27-year-old on loan with an obligation to buy this summer, with Tottenham said to be demanding €50 million.

However, it should be noted that a deal is considered highly unlikely as things stand. This is because Kulusevski's contract runs until 2027 and Spurs are known to drive a hard bargain.

13:49 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Liam Delap has been strongly linked to leave Ipswich Town at some point in 2025 on the back of some fine form during the first half of the season.

However, despite links to Chelsea and Liverpool, the striker isn't thinking about a transfer.

“I don’t really look at things like that. So, yes, I’m just focused on Ipswich,” he told Suffolk News.

“We are lucky to be playing in the Premier League. I think we’ve got a great opportunity here at Ipswich and we’re just trying to show our ability week in, week out, that’s a big plus for me.”

13:29 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

In a fresh twist, French journalist Romain Collet Gaudin, claims Paris Saint-Germain are extremely keen to bring the Egypt international to the Parc des Princes next season.

Zirkzee makes decision

13:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Joshua Zirkzee only joined Manchester United in the summer, but reports suggest he's already been offered an escape route from Old Trafford.

The striker has struggled to settle in England and his confidence reached a new lon when he was substituted in the first-half of the 2-0 home defeat by Newcastle United on Monday night.

Now, reports claim Juventus are interested in signing the 23-year-old on loan for the remainder of the season which would see the Dutchman reunited with with his former Bologna coach Thiago Motta.

However, according to the Mail, whilst Zirkzee is aware of the interest, he is focused on United and is said to have 'no desire to leave'.

Arsenal urged to sign Isak

12:53 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal are expected to be busy this month as they seek attacking reinforcements following Bukayo Saka’s injury.

Whilst links to the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Mathues Cunha exist, Paul Merson has urged his former club to break the bank for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

“If I was Arsenal and had the money, I'd go out and buy [Alexander] Isak. I'd break the bank for him,” he said. “He's the best of the best and takes Arsenal to another level.

“What I like about Jesus is he's got back into the team and said 'this time round, I'm going to get in the box and score goals. If I'm going to stay in this team, I need to score goals' and that's what he's done.

“The goal against Brentford was a proper poacher's goal and it's rare we see him in the six yard box, heading them in.

“With Kai Havertz coming back as well, it pushes him back to midfield but as a forward, Havertz will naturally get into the box and there's an extra body in there.

“If Jesus can keep doing what he's doing, they won't have to [bring in a striker]. But looking at the all-round picture and next season as well, if they can get hold of Isak, who I think is the best in the business at the moment, I think that would be a massive coup for Arsenal.”

Carlo Ancelotti reacts to Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer news

12:38 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Real Madrid's pursuit of Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold has dominated the first two days of the January transfer window.

Though, Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti is choosing to focus on matters on the pitch with the players he currently has at his disposal.

“It is difficult for me to talk about that in this context. But we are going to have to wait and see,” he said at a news conference.

“We are focused on all these games in January and the game tomorrow (against Valencia) and I’ve got nothing more to say. It’s not sensible for me to speak about the market right now.

“I’m not going to speak about it because right now, here, is not the place to talk about it.

“We will see what will happen but I have a great squad. We have got injuries and problems with that but we are also able to overcome them.”

Man United set to battle Arsenal for Matheus Cunha

12:13 , George Flood

A huge transfer fight appears to be brewing for Wolves star Matheus Cunha.

The Brazilian forward has been in excellent form for Wolves so far this season with 10 goals in the Premier League but is currently serving a two-game suspension following an altercation with a member of Ipswich’s security staff during a 2-1 loss at Molineux last month.

The list of clubs interested in a deal for Cunha appears to be growing all the time, with CaughtOffside reporting that he has now emerged as a real option for Manchester United.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Tottenham are all also said to be tracking the 25-year-old, along with Serie A giants Napoli and AC Milan.

However, Wolves are said to be hoping to ward off those suitors by giving Cunha a lucrative new five-and-a-half year deal lasting until the summer of 2030.

Hours before the midnight registration deadline, La Liga statement last night said: “Barcelona has not presented any alternative that would allow the registration, in accordance with La Liga's economic control regulations, to register any player from next January 2.”

In response to the offer from Real Madrid, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher posted on social media: “The most important thing for Liverpool in 2025 is winning the Premier League. No one’s contract or future should come in the way of that!

“I love Trent as a lad and a player, but his team would’ve told Real Madrid to bid and also would’ve known Liverpool would turn it down. It’s to try and cover themselves when he leaves for free.

“Again it’s something the club/fans don’t need with a huge game coming up.”

Barecelona given Olmo deadline

Man City January transfer window guide

Tuesday 31 December 2024 14:00 , Alex Young

After a dismal few months, Manchester City must look forward - at how to solve their problems and how to save their season.

Pep Guardiola said recently: “We're not a big fan of that [window], but the circumstances of this season have been special.

“We've spoken about doing something. In winter, it's if we really need it, or if we can really find something. It is not easy to do. Clubs don't want to sell and players are so expensive. It depends on the market, we'll see.”

But City can’t afford to “see”. They must spend.

Dom Smith took a look at their top priority in January, what else they need and possible ins and outs.

Tottenham January transfer window guide

Tuesday 31 December 2024 12:40 , Alex Young

A winter injury crisis for the second season running has stretched Tottenham's squad to the limit and left head coach Ange Postecoglou calling for “reinforcements” in January if Spurs are to climb from mid-table to a position more benefitting of their stature and continue to compete in the cups.

The club have used the mid-season window constructively in the last few years, recruiting Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pedro Porro, Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner in Januarys past, but Postecoglou has warned that the extended Champions League format may make it harder to buy this year.

The Australian has suggested that Spurs will target players who can improve their squad rather than his first-team.

Spurs have already signed winger Min-hyeok Yang from Gangwon FC but the 18-year-old South Korean is expected to need time to settle.

Harvey Vale set for Chelsea exit with Sunderland in race

Tuesday 31 December 2024 12:10 , Alex Young

Chelsea could be braced for several exits in January as the club seek to trim down a squad that is still quite bloated in number after several big-spending transfer windows over recent years.

One player who may well be departing Stamford Bridge next month is Harvey Vale, the versatile midfielder who has been with the club since Under-13 level and was previously academy player of the year.

The 21-year-old is out of contract at Chelsea in the summer and almost joined Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia in the summer, only for that deal to fall through at the 11th hour.

Vale has made only one senior Blues appearance since then, coming on as a half-time substitute in the 5-1 home victory over Shamrock Rovers in the Conference League earlier this month.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the former Bristol Rovers loanee could leave Chelsea in January as he enters the last six months of his current deal, with Sunderland joining Belgian giants Anderlecht and Dutch side Heerenveen in the race for his signature.

Chelsea January transfer window guide

Tuesday 31 December 2024 11:19 , Alex Young

The opening of a transfer window usually means the opening of the chequebook at Chelsea, but January is expected to provide a break with recent tradition.

The club’s hierarchy viewed the summer window as the culmination of a cycle that saw almost the entire first-team squad overhauled and with Enzo Maresca’s team flying high in the Premier League, there are few positions in obvious need of immediate improvement.

The Blues are blessed with the deepest squad in the country and though their mammoth season will extend into the summer’s new-look Club World Cup, they already look well placed to cope.

Why Chelsea should lead race for Liam Delap after changing transfer plans

Tuesday 31 December 2024 10:36 , Alex Young

There was an almost sympathetic smile on the face of Enzo Maresca as he explained why his two promising young centre-backs left Portman Road last night with empty pockets and no dinner money.

For 94 minutes here, Tosin Adarabioyo and Levi Colwill were made to look lightweight by Liam Delap, whose individual performance was - sparing Cole Palmer’s four goals in one half against Brighton - perhaps the best in a Chelsea game this season.

“This is Liam,” Maresca said of the brilliant, bullying force that had led Ipswich Town to their first home win of the season, earning and scoring an early penalty, then brilliantly laying on the clinching goal for former Cobham academy boy Omari Hutchinson.

Manchester United have no money to spend in January

Tuesday 31 December 2024 08:47 , Alex Young

An update on Manchester United’s January plans after yet another loss, and it’s not good news.

Manchester Evening News report that United have no money to spend in January, and any incomings will have to be funded by selling players.

And the players they have... well, no one wants. That, at the moment, includes wantaway Marcus Rashford, who is on £325,000 a week.

United spent £206million on five signings for Erik ten Hag in the summer, which has drained the kitty.

Asked last night about signing players in January, manager Ruben Amorim replied: "We don’t have that possibility in January.

"You know the situation better than I [do]. It’s not the case I am not arriving here and I can spend a lot of money, changing all the team. You know the situation so it’s not a point to talk about it."

Tottenham want FOUR new signings

Tuesday 31 December 2024 08:32 , Alex Young

Tottenham have been tipped to sign a new goalkeeper, centre-back, centre-forward and winger this window, amid links with Jack Grealish.

While Grealish (and his £300,000-a-week wages) look unlikely to be heading to north London, Spurs do appear set to be busy. And nothing says ‘successful summer’ like a winter window spending spree.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou said before the draw with Wolves that the club were “working hard” on new signings.

"We've got to sort of clear a picture of kind of where we're at," he said. "And I still think we have to be disciplined. It's not just about bringing anybody in. But there's certainly a need for us to try and reinforce if we can.

"Everyone knows January's not an easy time to do that. But, yeah, certainly the club's working hard behind the scenes ... to see what we can do to just help the players we've got at the moment who are giving everything in every game ... and, you know, sort of dipping into every bit of energy they have to try and get us through."
