Arsenal are on the verge of announcing Andrea Berta as their new sporting director and he is set to immediately turn his focus to the summer transfer window. The likes of Nico Williams, Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres all still key forward targets, while the Gunners are now said to be in a battle with Real Madrid to secure the signing of Martin Zubimendi. Goalkeeper Joan Garcia could also be on his way to the Emirates in a cut-price deal.

There has been a new twist on the Francisco Trincao to Manchester United front, with Kobbie Mainoo’s Old Trafford future still potentially in real doubt as the club also apparently look at the likes of future superstars Tyler Dibling and Chris Rigg. Bruno Fernandes, meanwhile, is said to be a target for Real Madrid, who are preparing a £90m move. Liverpool are still reeling from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s agreement with Real Madrid and are said to be talking to Jeremie Frimpong about becoming his replacement, with positive news from Milos Kerkez amid a potential breakthrough over Mohamed Salah’s contract.

Enzo Fernandez eyed by Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid are said to be preparing a bid for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Atletico are set to offer £25m plus midfielder Pablo Barrios, who has been a regular for Diego Simeone’s side this summer.

Matheus Cunha explains January decision

Matheus Cunha has said he “couldn’t leave” Wolves in January while they were in a relegation fight.

The Brazilian attracted significant interest, with Arsenal believed to be keen admirers, but he has now opened up on the decision to resist leaving Wolves mid-season, while suggesting a move could come this summer.

“I had a lot of offers but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it,” he told The Observer.

“Some things you can’t control but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.

“Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”

Arsenal confirm Andrea Berta arrival

Arsenal have confirmed the appointment of Andrea Berta as their new sporting director.

The Italian arrives in north London as the permanent replacement for Edu, who resigned his post in November to take up a new challenge overseeing the growing portfolio of clubs under Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Edu’s assistant Jason Ayto was named as his interim replacement while Arsenal conducted a thorough search for the Brazilian’s full-time successor.

They were linked with a whole host of external names as well as Ayto, including the likes of Dan Ashworth, Roberto Olabe, Thiago Scuro and Tomas Rosicky before Berta emerged as the leading contender for the job earlier in March.

Real Madrid plot Bruno Fernandes move

Manchester United could face a big decision over whether to sell Bruno Fernandes after it emerged the midfielder is a shock transfer target for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are ready to make a £90million move for Fernandes which would give cash-strapped United a major dilemma.

Scouts are said to have been sent by Real Madrid to watch Fernandes as the Spanish giants plot an overhaul of their squad in the summer, having closed in on a deal to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer at the end of the season.

According to the Daily Star, Fernandes has been identified as a top signing who could also be a potential successor to Luka Modric at the Bernabeu.

United manager Ruben Amorim does not want to lose his inspirational captain but United need to raise money and they would have to consider a big offer for him.

Chelsea identity Jules Kounde as top target

That’s according to Spanish outlet Sport, with it claimed that the Blues are prioritising a move for the Barcelona defender, who is out of contract in 2027.

Manchester United are reportedly set to hand a new contract to Bendito Mantato.

The versatile England Under-17 forward is highly-rated at Old Trafford and has shone at youth level so far this season, last month scoring an extra-time winner in the FA Youth Cup quarter-final win at Arsenal.

Fabrizio Romano now reports that Mantato will sign his first professional deal at United, penning terms for four years following talks with technical director Jason Wilcox and manager Ruben Amorim, who is said to be a big fan of the player.

Mantato was among the youngsters that trained with United’s first team at Carrington on Friday, along with Jim Thwaites, Godwill Kukonki and Reece Munro.

The Blues are among a number of top Premier League clubs set to be on the lookout for at least one new striker when the summer transfer market opens early in June.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Ipswich frontman Delap and RB Leipzig’s Sesko - a long-term target for Arsenal - are both potential options.

However, he adds at this stage that it is currently unclear as to who they will opt to pursue.

Liverpool appear to have been handed a new boost in their long-running pursuit of Milos Kerkez.

Finding a new right-back to succeed the Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold looks to be the top transfer priority at Anfield at the moment, with talks said to be ongoing over Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.

But the left side of defence also needs attention, with Kerkez long mentioned as the potential replacement for Andy Robertson amid his fine form for high-flying Bournemouth.

And while the 21-year-old - a friend and international team-mate of Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai with Hungary - is still focused on the Cherries ahead of their huge FA Cup quarter-final tie with Manchester City on Sunday, he seems open to a potential high-profile switch in the summer.

The former Reims striker has been linked with a host of top European sides including from the Premier League after rebounding from a difficult spell at Paris Saint-Germain by thriving in the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Ekitike, 22, now appears to be firmly on Arsenal’s radar, with The Sun reporting that they are targeting him as a potential transfer alternative to £150m-rated Newcastle star Alexander Isak.

Manchester United are interested in a deal for Francisco Trincao, reports claim.

A summer of significant change lies ahead at Old Trafford with Ruben Amorim widely expected to overhaul his consistently underperforming squad.

However, he apparently needs to sell players before he can buy, with reports this week that at least 10 could be on the way out at the end of the current season.

Focus will then turn to new additions, with the Daily Mirror reporting that Amorim is keen to raid former club Sporting Lisbon for Portugal winger Trincao, who also played under his compatriot at Braga.

However, Arsenal and Newcastle have also been linked with the 25-year-old rated at around £30m, with Barcelona also inserting a buy-back clause in their deal to sell him to Sporting in 2023.

Most of the biggest clubs in Europe have been linked with Gyokeres in recent months in some form or another, though Arsenal and Manchester United - the latter managed by ex-Sporting boss Ruben Amorim - appear to be the two main suitors in the fierce battle for his signature as both seek major forward upgrades this summer.

Juventus sack head coach Thiago Motta

Juventus have confirmed the sacking of head coach Thiago Motta.

Motta was only appointed last summer, having impressed at Bologna, but has lasted just nine months into a three-year contract.

A 3-0 loss at Fiorentina, which followed a 4-0 home defeat by Atalanta, proved to be the final straw for the Juve hierarchy.

Former player Igor Tudor has been appointed as Motta’s replacement, with Juventus sitting fifth in the Serie A standings and 12 points behind leaders Inter Milan.

"Juventus FC announces that it has relieved Thiago Motta of his position as coach of the men's first team," a club statement said.

"Juventus FC also announces that it has entrusted the leadership of the Men's First Team to Igor Tudor who will direct the first training session tomorrow."

Brighton have confirmed the signing of South Korea U20 winger Yoon Doyoung from Daejeon Hana Citizen.

The 18-year-old will join the club at the end of the season on a five-year contract, and it has also been confirmed that the plan is to loan him out next term

West Ham transfer target Ezechiel Banzuzi is expected to leave Belgian club OH Leuven this summer.

The Hammers tried to sign the 20-year-old in January and remain one of a number of clubs interested in him.

More than half-a-dozen clubs enquired about his availability in January, with West Ham and Monaco entering into negotiations with the Leuven board and Banzuzi’s representatives.

Chelsea deals for Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo confirmed

Chelsea’s agreement to sign Sporting Lisbon duo Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo has now been officially confirmed.

Last week it was reported that the Blues had pulled off a shock deal for 17-year-old winger Quenda, one of European football’s most highly-rated young attacking talents who had been heavily linked with a reunion with former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

That was followed by news over the weekend that Chelsea had also agreed to sign Quenda’s Sporting team-mate Essugo, the 20-year-old midfielder who is currently on a season-long loan in Spain with LaLiga strugglers Las Palmas.

Those deals have now been confirmed by Sporting, who announced in a statement to the markets on Wednesday night that the transfer of both players was worth a total of just under €74.5million (£62.4m).

Chelsea told to sign 'next Alisson'

Chelsea have been told the answer to their goalkeeper problems amid ongoing concerns over the form of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen.

Former Blues star Emmanuel Petit believes the answer lies in Lille's Lucas Chevalier.

Chevalier, aged 23, is already in his third season as Lille's first-choice keeper and is reportedly attracting admiring glances from both home and abroad.

Petit believes Chevalier has the ability to take up the task of being Chelsea goalkeeper, and compared him to Liverpool's Alisson Becker, who is considered by many as the best keeper in the world.

How Arsenal plan to overhaul attack

Arsenal are ready to sign two forwards in the first big transfer window for incoming sporting director Andrea Berta.

This season has shown that more options and reinforcements are needed. Arsenal plan to rectify that this summer, with their desire to bring in a striker and winger.

The Gunners also want to strengthen other areas of the squad and good progress has been made over a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

A new No9 is a priority, though, and Arsenal’s admiration for Alexander Isak is well documented. The club are long-term admirers of the Sweden international and have tracked him since his time at Real Sociedad.

Man Utd open talks for stunning £120m double deal

Manchester United are ready to rival Arsenal for two of their biggest summer transfer targets, with talks reportedly already underway.

A deal for Benjamin Sesko has twice been explored by Arsenal, in the recent January transfer window and last summer, and the RB Leipzig striker is now a target for United at the end of the season.

Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres is another player who is attracting plenty of interest from the Premier League, including Arsenal, and United have included the former Coventry star on their summer shortlist.

Both strikers are expected to command fees in excess of £60million. Further reports claim both Sesko and Gyokeres have decided to explore moves in the summer.

Arsenal make Moise Kean enquiry

Arsenal are among three Premier League clubs to have enquired about Fiorentina striker Moise Kean.

The former Everton man is enjoying his best season to date, scoring 20 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions, and is therefore attracting interest from elsewhere.

According to reports in Italy, Arsenal, West Ham and Newcastle have made contact with Fiorentina over a potential deal this summer.
