Transfer 'decision' made on Nottingham Forest defender as Man Utd talks set to be held

Man United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, currently on-loan at Nottingham Forest, is reportedly set to hold talks with the Red Devils over his long-term future.

The 25-year-old has impressed for the Reds during their return to the Premier League but hasn't played since picking up an injury against Leicester in January. Forest responded to Henderson's injury by signing former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas on loan until the end of the season.

And the signing of Navas raises questions over how much game time Henderson will be able to get at the City Ground until the end of the current campaign.

Transfer 'decision'

Atletico Madrid will cash in on Nottingham Forest loanee Renan Lodi this summer regardless of whether the Reds decide to sign the Brazilian, according to reports in Spain.

After taking time to settle with the Reds, the defender has become a key part of Steve Cooper ’s side, making the left-back spot his own. The Reds have an option to buy Lodi for €30million (around £26m) in the summer but there are no guarantees they will take up, even if they retain their Premier League status.

Last month, Everton were linked with Lodi, although their interest will hinge on the outcome of their own relegation battle.

It appears Lodi will not be playing his football with Atletico, or be even attached to Madrid giants, who are looking to move him on permanently, reports Spanish title AS.

Freuler's role

Head coach Steve Cooper has outlined how summer signing Remo Freuler has become “an important player and important character” for Nottingham Forest.

On the back of recent games, there has been plenty of debate about what represents the Reds’ strongest midfield. It is an area of the pitch where Cooper certainly has options, particularly with Ryan Yates having made his comeback at the weekend.

Freuler has been a regular in the side, however. He has played in 21 out of 25 league fixtures, with 19 of those coming as part of the starting XI. He has also captained the team when Joe Worrall and Yates have not featured.

As with a number of players, it took time for the 30-year-old to find his feet in English football and the Premier League. But he has always had an influence off the pitch.

Wood verdict

Lewis McGugan says Chris Wood is "what Nottingham Forest need" in their bid to stay in the Premier League.

Wood scored a crucial equaliser against Manchester City at the City Ground but has otherwise left many fans underwhelmed with his performances in six appearances since joining on loan from Newcastle United.

Speaking on the Garibaldi Red podcast, McGugan says Wood gives Forest a physical presence upfront in the absence of injured striker Taiwo Awonyi, highlighting his part in the team's first equaliser against Everton on Sunday.

"Listen, he's had a great career," he said. "He's not had the career that he's had if he doesn't offer something. He's different to what they've had before. Forest need a face to lead the line and Chris Wood is a good option for that.
