Transfer claim made as move for Nottingham Forest man 'falls through'

Fenerbahce’s “indecisiveness” proved costly in their late push to sign Nottingham Forest defender Loic Mbe Soh, it has been claimed.

The Turkish side are said to have been keen on securing a deal for the 21-year-old before their transfer window closed on Thursday. However, a potential move reportedly fell through before the deadline.

According to FotoSpor, an agreement in principle with Mbe Soh had been reached earlier in the week. It is said Fenerbahce’s pursuit then went quiet, and when the club wanted to send a private plane for the centre-back “in the late hours” of Thursday, this time he “did not want to go”. The report suggests “Fenerbahce’s indecisive behaviour destroyed the transfer” as Mbe Soh “was tired of being kept waiting”.

Mbe Soh has struggled to break into the first-team since his move from PSG to the City Ground two years ago. He has made 11 appearances in the Garibaldi; nine of those coming in league action.

He finds himself down the pecking order again this season, with the Reds having strengthened their defensive ranks this summer as they aim to hold their own in the Premier League. Mbe Soh was on the bench for games against Newcastle United and West Ham United, but dropped out of the match day squad as more signings arrived. He did, however, play the full 90 minutes of the 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Grimsby Town last month.

Forest boss Steve Cooper has a number of options when it comes to picking his back line, making for tough competition for Mbe Soh. Joe Worrall, Scott McKenna and Steve Cook remain on the books from last season, with Moussa Niakhate - who is currently injured - Willy Boly and Loic Bade brought in. Fellow summer signings Giulian Biancone and Cheikhou Kouyate can operate as centre-backs, too. Jonathan Panzo is also still a Forest player, but is spending the season on loan at Coventry City to get regular game time.
