The January window has just days left to run, and it's thought Newcastle United fans will experience a very different end to the month than in previous years under former owner Mike Ashley - namely, the new owners are looking to add to their squad until the very last moment.
While frustrations have been felt in the search for a centre-back, there's still confidence that at least one defensive addition will arrive while head coach Eddie Howe has spoken of his hope to get in 'a couple' more new players.
One development is the move for a defensive midfielder and it appears Newcastle are closing in on Lyon's Bruno Guimaraes - the much sought after Brazilian.
While Lyon have issued a statement denying any agreement, United sources are confident this deal will happen - and speaking on The Everything is Black and White Podcast, our chief sports writer Lee Ryder praised the approach of the owners.
"If they can get Guimaraes through the door it really does capture the imagination.
"Even if they only sign three players in this window, I think a lot of fans would accept it because they understand the owners have been trying for others.
"They understand the club is not in a position where they can just throw money around like confetti because there is the summer window to consider and financial fair play.
"The club are pushing for four or five players, if they can get three done with four days to go, there's a chance they may get more but if they didn't it wouldn't be through the want of trying whereas in the past the old regime were telling me on January 3rd or 4th 'that's us done for business' - it's a far cry from those days and hopefully Newcastle finish the window in style now."
Lee joins host Andrew Musgrove on this episode and the pair also discuss
- The imminent arrival of Bruno Guimaraes and what it means for competition
- The search for a defender and if it's time to move on from Diego Carlos
- The expectation of a busy final few days to come in the transfer window
- Much more
