A butcher who abducted and sexually assaulted a child while wearing women’s clothes should remain in a male prison according to the First Minister.
Andrew Miller, who is also known as Amy George, abducted and sexually assaulted the child in his home in the Borders over 27 hours, watched porn in front of the child and was also found to have hundreds of indecent images of children.
First Minster Humza Yousaf was challenged over whether Miller, who is in the process of transitioning to female, will be housed in the male or female prison estate.
He was visiting a butcher shop in Bellshill as part of a local campaign stunt when he was questioned by reporters. He was joined by MP Stephen Bonnar and MSP Neil Gray on the visit.
Asked about the rules for violent offenders, Yousaf said: “Andrew Miller is being housed in the male estate. If he is sentenced I would not expect that to change but that, of course, is a decision for SPS to make.”
Yousaf said he thought the current policy for managing transgender prisoners was “a good policy” but would not commit to it remaining in its current form.
He said: “I think the policy’s working well, there’s a conversation to have with SPS about whether or not we make it a permanent policy.”
