Metrolink services are buckling under the heat once again as Greater Manchester continues to bask in sunshine. Services have been cancelled this afternoon (August 13) between Bury and Crumpsall, in north Manchester.
Trams were cancelled shortly before 1.30pm today. Metrolink says the disruption is 'due to high temperatures', and customers can use their tram tickets on a number of local bus services instead.
In a post on Twitter, a spokesperson for Manchester Metrolink wrote: "Due to high temperatures, there are currently no services between Crumpsall and Bury. Tickets can be used on bus services 59, 66, 135, 524, 90 95, 97 98.

"Sorry for any inconvenience caused." It is not the first time Metrolink services have been severely disrupted during the recent heatwave.
Lines were brought to a halt as the region endured record-breaking temperatures on July 18 and 19, while the Bury line also suffered disruption just yesterday. Transport bosses had anticipated some disruption on tram services today as the hot weather continues.
In a tweet sent out after 9am this morning, a Metrolink spokesperson said: "Temperatures are set to soar today! Hot weather can affect the rails, overhead power lines and the ground which the track sits on.
"Tram services may run slower during this time, so allow plenty of time for travel!" Yesterday, Transport for Greater Manchester explained why the Bury line had been so badly affected by the heatwave.
A spokesperson wrote on Twitter: "The Bury line was built many years ago and was built to withstand temperatures up to 30 degrees. When it exceeds this, there is damage to the overhead line."
