Trains in Scottish city cancelled 'all day' as car crashes into bridge

TRAINS in Aberdeen have been cancelled all day after a car crashed into a bridge.

Network Rail confirmed the line between Dyce and Aberdeen will remain closed on Sunday after images showed the damage done by the crash.

The railway bridge was first closed at around 9pm on Saturday after the crash damaged a parapet wall above the tracks.

The rail operator confirmed a specialist engineer was sent to the scene to assess the damage and a team deployed to begin repairs.

Local Aberdeen/Inverurie services are cancelled, while Inverness to Aberdeen services will terminate at Dyce.

Services from Aberdeen to Inverness will start from Dyce, while ticket acceptance is also in place on Stagecoach buses.

Sharing the incident on Twitter/X, Network Rail said: “The line between Dyce and Aberdeen will remain closed today.

“We’re dealing with significant damage to a bridge over the tracks, and it’s not safe to run trains.

“Overnight we’ve made alterations to the timetable with ScotRail. Please check your journey before you travel.”

Meanwhile, ScotRail said: “Due to a road vehicle striking a bridge, the line is closed between Aberdeen and Dyce.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7.40pm on Saturday, 5 April, 2025, we were called to a report of a car crashing into the wall of a railway bridge on Don Street, Aberdeen.

"Officers attended and the driver had left the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

"The bridge remains closed with a diversion in place."
