Train line between Manchester and Liverpool blocked due to emergency incident

A train line between Manchester and Liverpool is blocked this morning due to emergency services dealing with an incident.

TransPennine and Northern services are currently delayed or cancelled between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria. Services between Wigan North Western and Liverpool are also affected.

Emergency crews are currently at the scene of the incident near Huyton in Merseyside. The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed.

According to the National Rail website, disruption is expected until at least 11am. People are being urged to use their tickets on different routes.

A tweet posted by TransPennine Express at around 9.20am said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident in the #Huyton area, services are currently suspended from running in both directions between #LiverpoolLimeStreet and #Manchester#Victoria For further updates, please check here: journeycheck.com/tpexpress/."

Northern tweeted: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton the line is blocked. Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes."

The Manchester Evening News has contacted the British Transport Police for information.
