Portland Trail Blazers forward Toumani Camara will be sidelined for the rest of the season as he recovers from a rib injury that resulted in a small laceration on his kidney. The injury occurred during the team's recent game against the Atlanta Hawks, where Camara had to exit the game in the fourth quarter after sustaining a blow to his left side.
Subsequent medical examinations revealed that Camara had suffered a fractured left rib along with the kidney issue. However, the team has stated that they expect the 23-year-old player to make a full recovery. Camara, a product of Dayton, is currently under observation in Atlanta but is set to return to Portland for further testing and treatment.
Prior to his injury, Camara had been performing well offensively, averaging 9.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in his last 15 games. He also showcased an impressive 47.4 percent shooting accuracy from the 3-point line during this period.
Originally selected as a second-round pick by the Phoenix Suns in the 2023 NBA Draft, Camara joined the Trail Blazers as part of a significant three-team trade last October. This trade involved key players like Damian Lillard and Jusuf Nurkic being moved to other teams.
During his rookie season with the Blazers, Camara posted averages of 7.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. Despite his contributions, the Blazers have struggled this season and currently hold a record of 19-55 in the competitive Western Conference.
The team's next game will see them facing the Orlando Magic on Monday night as they navigate the remainder of the season without Camara's on-court presence.
