Trai Hume delighted to play his part and put Sunderland on the brink of Wembley

Trai Hume headed a priceless winner in the first leg of their Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-final to leave Sunderland 90 minutes away from Wembley.

The Northern Ireland international completed the comeback for the Black Cats after Amad Diallo had cancelled out Elijah Adebayo’s early opener for Luton Town.

Hume was delighted to have played his part, excelling as part of a back three before popping up with the crucial winner.

"I've said it before I'll always do a job for the team. It doesn't matter where I play, I'll give my best no matter where it is," said the former Linfield man told the Sunderland website.

"Goochie was playing on the left said of a back three and obviously he would do anything for the team as well.

"We're just going to have to fill in where we're at, obviously we're short in some areas but it worked out alright today.

"I thought it was a good all-round performance. Obviously the result was what we wanted, we wanted to win and go there with a lead.

"They are big and physical, that's what we're not, we're technical and small, but we scored from two set pieces.

"Their strikers are massive, their centre halves are big but they're also athletic, it's not as if they can't move, they are fast and quick.

"They popped it about today too, they're good on the ball, you can't take that away from them.

"They're a good side but we'll go there on Tuesday hoping to win again.

"Nothing has been achieved yet. We won today but we have to go there on Tuesday and win again.

"We don't want to draw, we want to go there and take the game to them, try and win and get to Wembley."

As for the goal Hume was delighted to be in the right place at the right time.

"We have been working on set pieces throughout the week," he said.

"I knew whenever Clarkey got it he would try and shift it out of his feet and put it in, I was just in the right area to guide it in the net."
