They confirmed that Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bigbury and Kingsbridge, an Independent Rescue Boat from Hope Cove and the Coastguard helicopter from Newquay were all sent to the scene along with ambulance teams.
Around an hour later they informed Devon and Cornwall Police about what happened and the teenager was confirmed dead at the scene.
Her next of kin have been informed.
Police aren’t treating the death as suspicious and inquiries are ongoing, the Mirror was told by a Devon and Cornwall police spokesperson.
South Hams reports that the teenager had been walking her dog with her boyfriend when she tried to stop the dog chasing a rabbit and tripped.
Reports on social media have said the same, but these details have yet to be confirmed.
