On Wednesday, rescue teams discovered another body at a tequila distillery in Mexico, following an explosion and fire that occurred the day before. This latest discovery has brought the death toll to six, with two workers sustaining injuries in the incident.
The affected factory is owned by Jose Cuervo, a renowned tequila brand in Mexico. The local civil defense authorities reported that the most recent body was found in a waste area where large containers had collapsed.
According to a statement released by the company, the explosion took place while employees were conducting maintenance work. Although authorities initially stated that the situation was under control on Tuesday night, a fire broke out in a storage area containing cardboard and other materials on Wednesday morning.
The town of Tequila, located approximately 375 miles northwest of Mexico City, is known for its association with the tequila industry. Situated near a volcano and surrounded by agave plantations, the municipality, home to around 40,000 residents, heavily relies on tequila production and the tourism it attracts.
