An Idaho boy, who went missing from his home during his fifth birthday party, has been found dead, authorities confirmed. Matthew Glynn, a nonverbal child with autism, was discovered deceased in a canal located approximately half a mile away from his residence, as reported by the Boise Police Department.
Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar expressed deep sorrow over the outcome of the search efforts, stating, 'It is heartbreaking to have such a conclusion to this effort when we had so hoped to find Matthew alive and well.'
Authorities mentioned that there are currently no indications of foul play in connection with the incident, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding Glynn's disappearance and tragic demise.
The search for the missing boy commenced on Monday evening after he was reported missing around 5:45 p.m. local time. A comprehensive search operation involving multiple agencies, including Boise Police, Boise Fire, and Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue, was launched promptly to locate the child.
Various resources such as drones, K9 units, and utility task vehicles were utilized during the search efforts. Additionally, detectives from the Ada County Child Abduction Response Team conducted an investigation, while officers conducted door-to-door searches in the vicinity where Glynn was last seen.
Scotty Perkins, a spokesperson for Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue, revealed that searchers played Glynn's favorite song, 'Wheels on the Bus,' in an attempt to attract his attention, considering his nonverbal autistic condition.
Boise Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer expressed his condolences to Glynn's family, acknowledging the tragic outcome of the search operation. He stated, 'This is not the outcome we were all hoping for. Our hearts go out to Matthew's family, and we extend our deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time.'
Authorities have indicated that the body found in the canal is presumed to be that of Matthew Glynn, pending official identification by the Ada County Coroner's Office. The community mourns the loss of the young boy and stands in solidarity with his grieving family during this challenging period.
