The death of a doctor after a battle with mental illness is to be examined on the orders of Scotland's top law officer.
Sara MacRae, 55, qualified from the University of Aberdeen in 1988 and specialised in psychiatry but following bouts of depression and psychosis she was a regular patient in hospital.
MacRae, originally from the Isle of Skye, repeatedly told medics that she felt suicidal in the weeks and months before her death and requested anti-depressants.
Her son had visited her just half-an-hour before she passed away at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital in March 2020.

The Lord Advocate, Dorothy Bain KC, has now ordered a fatal accident inquiry after ruling the circumstances of the death give rise to 'serious public concern'.
A virtual preliminary hearing will be held on April 23 at Edinburgh Sheriff Court while the full inquiry will get underway at a later date.
Following her death, her son Christopher posted a heartbreaking tribute to his late mother on social media.
He wrote: "During her life she wrote many letters to various government bodies and human rights groups to speak out about how many people die in the mental health system and how care could be improved.
"She knew of many that had passed away while in hospital, as well as shortly after discharge.
"But it was too big a fight for one person to manage. It was dismissed as psychotic ramblings, but there was a lot of truth behind it.
"The day my mum passed away, she said to me 'Christopher I hope when I die I won't go to Hell, because I've been living in Hell my entire life'.
"She is free now, and her journey has come to an end, but her fight is nowhere close to being finished.
"If my mum had to die, I hope at least she can have died for a reason - fighting for everything she believed in, and that we can carry on her fight in her absence."
He added: "She was the kindest and most caring person I've ever known, who put absolutely everything into bringing me up and being the best mother she could be.
"She was and is my absolute world, and she'll be forever missed."
A notice announcing inquiry said: "The death of Dr MacRae occurred in Scotland in circumstances which give rise to serious public concern and the Lord Advocate has decided that it is in the public interest for an inquiry to be held into the circumstances of the death."
NHS Lothian and Borders were approached for comment.
