Tragedy of young dad stabbed in chest as killer remains at large

It has been nearly three years since an 18-year-old dad was viciously stabbed to death in broad daylight.

Kyle Whitley died on April 13 2020 - Easter Monday - after being stabbed in the chest by an unknown assailant on Vincent Road in Litherland. Five people were arrested in connection with his tragic death, and three of them, including a 17-year-old St Helens boy, remained under investigation - however, no charges were ever brought.

Detectives believe the "vulnerable" teenager, who had been living in Litherland for just a few months, may have been exploited by organised criminals before he was killed.

On the first anniversary of Kyle's murder in 2021, police released additional information, including video footage of the route detectives believe was taken by the killer, from Church Road to flats on Vincent Road, Litherland. The same unknown person was caught on CCTV leaving the scene along Vincent Road towards Daley Road.

Another video showed a route through gardens along the rear of Moss Lane, believed to have been taken by a second person leading onto Moss Lane and towards Church Road following the stabbing.

Detective Inspector Barbara Hebden said: “Although we have followed up a number of lines of enquiry we believe that there are people out there who have information which could help bring those responsible to justice.

“Extensive enquiries have established the routes we believe those who were involved in Kyle’s murder took to get to Vincent Road, where Kyle was stabbed, and the routes they took when they left the scene.

"Although on the day of Kyle’s death we were in the first national lockdown I am sure there were people out and about, in their cars, or on foot, maybe exercising or a key worker going to or coming home from work.

"This was also the Easter Bank holiday Monday and so many people may have been out in their gardens and may have heard or seen something. If you were one of those people and were in the area of Vincent Road, Moss Lane or Daley Road between 2pm and 3pm that day I would urge you to come forward as you may, without realising, have seen something which could be vital to our investigation.”

Kevin Clague, head of the Force Serious Crime Review Unit said: “Nearly three years have passed since the tragic death of Kyle and I want to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone with information to please come forward.

“No murder case is ever closed and we want to continue to appeal for any information so his family can finally see justice.

“You may have previously felt unwilling to come forward but as the years go by, allegiances change, people move away and may now feel more comfortable coming forward. Any piece of information could be the key to progressing this investigation, however trivial you think it may be, so please call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
