Tragedy as woman found dead at Greater Manchester station with police still trying to identify her

A woman was tragically found dead on train tracks in south Manchester on Tuesday night (May 23) with efforts still underway to try and identify her.

Emergency services swarmed the station at East Didsbury, near Parrs Wood, at around 10.40pm on Tuesday to reports of a casualty on the railway line.

It has since been confirmed the fatality was a woman, but that officers have not been able to inform her family due to her not yet being identified.

Paramedics and officers from British Transport Police, as well as crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, attended the incident on Tuesday however the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

Detectives are now appealing for the public’s help in identifying the woman, who is described as of large build, between 40 and 50 years old, with short dark hair, and glasses.

She was wearing a floral top, black leggings, pink Gola trains and a purple Ori Loosen handbag. She was also wearing a distinctive necklace - which police have released an image of below - and carrying baby bottles.

Detective Inspector Ian Wright said: “This is a tragic incident and we have been working tirelessly to try and identify the woman so we can inform her loved ones.

“She was wearing a number of distinctive items and I would urge anyone who thinks this description may sound familiar to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
