An investigation is underway after it emerged a person who was hit by a train has died.
Yesterday (Sunday) the M.E.N. reported an individual was struck near Adlington station between Cheadle Hulme and Macclesfield.
Today British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed the person had died and that a file would be prepared for a coroner's inquest. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

The emergency services were called to the railway line following a report someone had been struck shortly before 1pm on Sunday. Rail services were disrupted for a period but the line re-opened at about 2.30pm.
In an update about the incident at the time, National Rail said: "The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Cheadle Hulme and Macclesfield. Whilst they attend to the scene, some lines are currently blocked. As a result, trains between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised."
CrossCountry trains tweeted: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Stockport and Macclesfield, lines in both directions are currently blocked. We are currently unable to call at Macclesfield and Stoke On Trent."
Today a spokeswoman for BTP confirmed the person had died, although they declined to provide any further details of the deceased.
She said: "Officers were called to Adlington station at 12.49pm yesterday (8 January) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
