Tragedy as mum, 28, found dead at home on Christmas Day

A mum who had "suffered with mental health issues for many years", took her life on Christmas Day.

Jordan Carter, 28, was found dead after police were called to her home at around 8.30pm on December 25, with officers confirming that there were no suspicious circumstances. She leaves behind a nine year old son Kai.

Jordan's mother Cheryl Carter is now raising money for her grandson, to put in a trust fund for when he turns 18, PlymouthLive reports. Since setting up a GoFundMe page, more than £2,000 has been donated.

Cheryl paid tribute to "large-than-life" Jordan, who was due to turn 29 on Boxing Day, and said that she "loved" Kai dearly. She said: "Jordan was a larger-than-life character, her two loves were horses and she started riding at the age of four. And of course, her son Kai.

"Myself and my family are totally overwhelmed by the generosity of people, especially with times being so difficult for most financially, with rising living costs and of course Christmas, however people still did donate. Which has restored my faith in human nature.

"No words could ever express my appreciation for all the donations & heartfelt messages at such a tragic time. I will be forever grateful."

Writing on the GoFundMe page - which you can donate to here - Cheryl said: "Hi my name is Cheryl, I'm fundraising for my grandson Kai, whose mum tragically took her own life on Christmas Day.

"All donations will be put in a trust fund for him. If anyone can help no matter how little it would be very much appreciated. Many many thanks."

Cheryl said her daughter had "suffered with mental health issues for many years" and she is now urging anyone who is struggling to reach out. She added: "People do care, and if people tried reaching out, there are people willing to help."
