A man's body has been found on the M1 motorway in Leeds.
Police believe the man fell from the A639 bridge over the motorway and may have been struck by a vehicle on the southbound carriageway. The tragic discovery, at 12.38am today, closed the M1 in both directions at junction 44.
There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death.

Lane closures were in place on the southbound carriageway this morning while West Yorkshire Police investigated, cleared the scene and marshalled traffic. Long queues stretched back to junction 46 for Colton/Garforth and roads through Garforth, Colton, Swillington and Oulton have been hit with heavy traffic.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for information following an incident on the Southbound carriageway of the M1, Junction 44 in the early hours this morning (May 10).
"At 12.38am, the body of a man, believed to have fallen from the A639 bridge over the M1, was found on the carriageway where he may have been struck by a vehicle.
"The motorway was closed in both directions whilst investigative work was carried out. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances regarding the death and the coroner’s office has been informed."
