Tragedy as man dies after getting into difficulty while swimming in Cork lake

A man has died after he got into difficulty while swimming in a Cork lough.

An emergency call was made when a member of the public spotted that the man was having trouble in Lough Hyne, near Skibbereen.

Emergency services raced to the scene, including the air ambulance, firefighters and gardai.

They all participated in the effort to save the man, CorkBeo report.

Though CPR was carried out, shortly after the man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene at 12.45 pm this afternoon.

A gardai spokesperson told the publication, "Gardaí attended the scene of an incident at Lough Hyne in Skibbereen, Co. Cork this afternoon Sunday, 1st May at 12.45pm.

"A male, aged in his 50s, got into difficulty in the water and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to the mortuary in Cork University Hospital."
