Tragedy as man dies after falling from Newcastle's Redheugh Bridge into River Tyne

A man has tragically died after falling from the Redheugh Bridge into the River Tyne.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 1.30pm this afternoon (April 26) after receiving a report that a man had fallen from the bridge and into the water below.

Officers attended the scene of the incident, but the man was sadly later confirmed as deceased. His next of kin have been notified.

Although enquiries are still in their early stages, police believe that there was no third party involvement, and a subsequent report is set to be made to the coroner.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 1.30pm today (Wednesday) we received a report of a man who had fallen from the Redheugh Bridge into the water below.

“Emergency services attended the scene but sadly the man was later confirmed as deceased. His next of kin have been notified.

“At this early stage, officers do not currently believe there to have been any third party involvement and a report will be made for the coroner."
