Tragedy as body of missing Wallsend man Ronnie Brown, 81, is sadly found

The body of a missing North Tyneside man has sadly been found, police have confirmed.

Ronnie Brown, 81, was first reported as missing on Sunday, November 6 after he left the family home in the Bracken Avenue area of Wallsend at about 7am.

A search was launched by officers from Northumbria Police following the first report and a number of enquiries were carried out to locate Ronnie.

However, after six days of searches and after consultation with his family, officers subsequently decided to stand down the search on November 11.

Today, (November 22), Northumbria Police have confirmed that a body was sadly found on Sunday, November 20 in the St Peter’s Basin area of Newcastle. Formal identification has now taken place and officers have confirmed this to be Ronnie.

Police do not believe there to be any third-party involvement in his death and a report will now be made for the coroner. His family are being supported by specialist officers at this distressing time.

Superintendent Paul Stewart, of Northumbria Police, said: “This is a very sad update which we hoped we would not have to give.

“Our thoughts continue to be with Ronnie’s family and loved ones during this tragic time, and we would ask that their privacy is respected while they come to terms with what has happened.

“Whenever we search for a missing person, we hugely appreciate the public's support – not to mention assistance from all our partners and volunteers including Mountain Rescue and the National Police Air Service.”
