Tragedy as body found near Lancashire village during rescue mission

A body has been recovered after an incident in Lancashire that saw mountain rescuers deployed, police have confirmed. The occurrence happened on Saturday (September 3) and saw officers from Lancashire Constabulary team up with Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue personnel near Barley, overlooking Pendle Hill.

On Wednesday (September 7) police confirmed that a body was found during the incident. They said it was a non-suspicious death.

Rossendale and Pendle MRT reported that it was called on Saturday and that they were contacted by police to assist with the incident. Due to the nature of the incident, the rescue team didn't comment further.

A spokesperson for the mountain rescue team said: "On Saturday 03/09/2022 the team was contacted by Lancashire Police to assist with an ongoing incident near Barley. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the incident, we are unable to share more details."

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police confirmed: "It was a non-suspicious death outdoors. We wouldn't provide further details in the circumstances."

Police did move to clarify that the incident did not concern that of Lawrence Taylor, whose body was found following a missing person's appeal on Saturday.
