A 21-year-old woman has died after her car crashed on the main road through Scotland's Black Isle.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was driving her grey Nissan Micra along the A9 at the time of the collision, around 10am on Sunday February 6.
Mercy crews rushed to the scene on the arterial route near to the Artafallie junction, a few miles north-west of Inverness.
Despite their best efforts the woman, the sole occupant of her car, could not be saved.
Officers closed the road in both directions following the smash.
A cherry picker was commissioned to retrieve the vehicle from the side of the road.
Images from the scene showed that the hatchback had been extensively damaged.
The road was re-opened five hours later at 3pm after police concluded their enquiries on site.
However, Highlands and Islands Division cops have issued a plea for anyone who witnessed the crash, or may have dashcam footage, to get in touch as soon as possible.
Sergeant David Miller said: “At this time, our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the deceased.
“Our enquiries into the circumstances of the crash remain ongoing and we are appealing for any motorists who travelled on the A9 between Munlochy and Tore this morning, and believe they may have seen the Nissan Micra involved, to please come forward.
“You can call police on 101, quoting incident 1250 of 6 February.”
