Traffic was held on the M58 after two separate crashes on the same stretch of motorway.
Lancashire Police first received a 999 call at 2.22pm on Tuesday, March 14, following reports a car had left the M58 westbound carriageway between junction three, Bickerstaffe and junction one, Maghull Lane. Once officers arrived at the scene they found a vehicle had left the carriageway and was on an embankment.
Just five minutes later another collision was reported to police just 200m away from the first incident. Two vehicles were involved in the crash, with one crossing the hard shoulder.

Traffic was temporarily stopped by highways officers before a one lane closure was put into place. Lancashire Police has confirmed both incidents are damage only, with nobody being injured.
No arrests have been made and a closure will remain in place until vehicles have been recovered from the scene.
