Traffic delays after HGV crashes into back of car on Mersey Gateway Bridge

A HGV driver has been reported to police after smashing into the back of a car on the Mersey Gateway Bridge.

Cheshire Police were called at 4pm on Tuesday, January 31 following reports of a crash on the southbound carriageway of the bridge. Once officers arrived they found a HGV had smashed into the back of a grey Renault Clio which pushed it into the central reservation of the bridge.

Two lanes of traffic were closed while emergency services attended the scene. The driver of the car was assessed at the scene after complaining of a sore neck, with officers confirming there are no serious injuries.
