Traffic chaos on M8 as 'concern for person' causes huge tailbacks

A man was rushed to hospital following an incident on the M8 this morning.

Emergency services raced to the M8 near junction 24 at around 7.30am today following reports of the incident on the westbound lane.

Police said they received reports of concern for a person westbound M8 near junction 24, Govan.

The man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Glasgow.

Drivers faced major delays, whilst emergency services investigated. The road was closed at junction 22, with Helen Street also being blocked off westbound.

Traffic Scotland said traffic was being directed off the exit slip at J24, to rejoin the road using the westbound entry slip.

An update outlined: "A closure was in place at J22, but traffic can now either use the S/B #M77 or continue on the #M8 to J24 and use the exit/entry slip roads as a diversion."

Traffic tailed back over the Kingston Bridge with drivers facing delays of nearly an hour and a half on the M74 northbound during this morning's rush hour.

There was also an hour and 20 minute delays on the M8 westbound and M77 northbound.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 7.25am on Tuesday, 15 November, 2022, we were called to a report of a concern for person on the westbound M8 near junction 24, Govan.

"Emergency services attended and a man was taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.

"The road was closed westbound from junction 22 and also westbound on Helen Street.

"All roads reopened at around 9.20am."
