Traffic chaos as overrunning roadworks causes M6 lane closures

Lane closures on the M6 this morning have led to heavy traffic and long delays.

Three lanes (out of four) are closed on the M6 Thelwall Viaduct Northbound, between J20 M56 (Lymm Interchange) to J21 A57 Manchester Road (Woolston).

The lanes were closed overnight for resurfacing work and were due to reopen by 6am, on Wednesday, February 23.

However due to the tarmac not setting on time the lanes have not yet reopened. It is likely they will remain closed until 8am at the earliest.

Highways England are reporting delays of more than 45 minutes above average journey times.

Disruption was expected and drivers were previously warned of the roadworks taking place on the motorway.

Wednesday, February 23

• The M6 southbound between junctions 20 (Lymm) and 22 (Winwick) Will be closed between 9pm and 6am

• The M6 northbound between junctions 22 (Winwick) and 23 (Haydock) will be closed between 9pm and 6am

• The M56 westbound between junctions 12 (Warrington) and 14 (Hapsford Interchange) will be closed between 8pm and 6am.

• The M56 eastbound between junctions 12 (Warrington) and 14 (Hapsford Interchange) will be closed between 9pm and 6am.

• The M57 northbound between junctions one (Tarbock) and four (Gillmoss) will be closed between 9pm and 6am.

• The M58 westbound between junctions one (Maghull) and three (Ormskirk) will be closed between 8pm and 6am.

Thursday, February 24

• The M6 southbound between junctions 20 (Lymm) and 22 (Winwick) Will be closed between 9pm and 6am

• The M6 northbound between junctions 21 (Warrington) and 23 (Haydock) will be closed between 9pm and 6am

• The M56 eastbound between junctions 12 (Warrington) and 11 (Daresbury Park) will be closed between 9pm and 6am

• The M56 westbound between junctions 12 (Warrington) and 11 (Daresbury Park) will be closed between 9pm and 6am

• The M57 northbound between junctions one (Tarbock) and four (Gillmoss) will be closed between 9pm and 6am.

• The M58 westbound between junctions one (Maghull) and three (Ormskirk) will be closed between 8pm and 6am.

• The M62 westbound between junctions six (Huyton) and eight (Warrington) will be closed between 9pm and 5am.

Friday, February 25

• The M6 southbound between junctions 20 (Lymm) and 22 (Winwick) Will be closed between 9pm and 6am.

• The M6 northbound between junctions 22 (Winwick) and 23 (Haydock) will be closed between 9pm and 6am.

• The M56 westbound between junctions 12 (Warrington) and 11 (Daresbury Park) will be closed between 9pm and 6am.

• The M57 northbound between junctions two (Huyton) and four (Gillmoss) will be closed between 9pm and 6am.

• The M58 westbound between junctions one (Maghull) and three (Ormskirk) will be closed between 8pm and 6am.

• The M6 northbound between junctions 25 (Bryn) and 26 (Orrell) Will be closed between 9pm and 6am

Sunday, February 28
