Trader Joe's is recalling its second food product this month — make sure you don't eat it

Trader Joe's is recalling another food item just a few weeks after it had just recalled one of its very popular frozen food items.

The retailer is recalling packages of Trader Joe's 50% less salt Roasted & Salted Whole Cashews due to a potential to be contaminated by salmonella, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on March 18. The FDA said that at least one recalled lot of the nuts tested positive for salmonella.

The packs were supplied to Trader Joe's by Wenders LLC of Dublin, CA and is present in 16 states across the country including Arizona, California, Kansas, Nevada, Tennessee, and Texas.

The FDA said that no illnesses have been reported due to the product. But the FDA advises consumers to not eat any of the product and return it to Trader Joe's to receive a full refund.

This is the second time this month that Trader Joe's is recalling a food item after the company pulled nearly 62,000 pounds of Trader Joe's Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings on March 2. That product was found to be potentially contaminated by "foreign materials, specifically hard plastic from a permanent marker" by the Food Safety and Inspection Service.

TheStreet reached out to the FDA for comment, but did not received a response in time for the story. FSIS responded to say that it be best to refer to any response from Trader Joe's on the matter.

Trader Joe's responded to the TheStreet with a statement saying that the recalls are "not related." The statement read:

"The recalls are not related.

At Trader Joe's, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our customers and crew members. With this in mind, we do the daily work to make certain our products meet our stringent food safety expectations. We don't take any chances when it comes to product safety and quality.

We have a close relationship with our vendors. We err on the side of caution and are proactive in addressing issues. We voluntarily take action quickly, aggressively investigating potential problems and removing the product from sale if there is any doubt about its safety or quality.

We value information and clear communication. Should a recall become necessary, we waste no time in providing our customers details. Our recall-related communications go well beyond regulatory requirements: we share news through in-store signs, on our website, and through email alerts.

With more than five decades of experience working directly with the producers of our products, we stand by our proactive practices and continually improve our food safety processes. We take these matters seriously—personally, even, as our families eat and drink TJ's products, too."
