A field trip at a Wisconsin apple orchard took a distressing turn when a tractor rollover incident left at least 17 individuals injured, including children. The unfortunate event occurred at the Bushel and a Peck Apple Orchard in Lafayette, Wisconsin, where two hay wagons being pulled by a tractor overturned.
According to Deputy Chief Corey Jeffers of the Chippewa Fire District, the aftermath of the rollover resulted in three individuals sustaining life-threatening injuries, five with serious injuries, and nine others being transported by ambulance. Additionally, one patient had to be airlifted to receive medical attention, while the rest were taken to the hospital using personal vehicles.
While specific details regarding the injuries were not disclosed by authorities, Chippewa County Sheriff Travis Hakes shared on social media that the incident involved several children, their parents, and chaperones who were on a wagon ride through the orchard. Sheriff Hakes explained that the wagon lost control while descending a hill, leading to an abrupt overturn when attempts were made to stop it.
In response to the situation, Sheriff Hakes emphasized the importance of prioritizing the safety of the victims and facilitating the reunification of children with their parents. He personally intervened at the scene to assist in calming the children and ensuring they were reunited with their families during the challenging circumstances.
