Following the less-than-stellar performance by Billy Ray Cyrus at a post-inaugural ball for Donald Trump, the American singer-songwriter’s son, Trace Cyrus, has penned an emotional letter via Instagram asking for his father to seek help.
“Since my earliest memories all I can remember is being obsessed with you and thinking you were the coolest person ever,” Trace writes in a January 23 post to Instagram.
“Sadly the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like [sic] I barely recognise now.
“It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you,” Trace continues.
Billy Ray Cyrus, who is mostly known for his 1992 rendition of “Achy Breaky Heart” and for featuring on Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” in 2019, has since responded to his panned performance at Trump’s post-inaugural ball in an Instagram post written on January 22.
“I wouldn’t have missed the honour of playing this event whether my microphone, guitar and monitors worked or not.
“I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me,” Billy Ray wrote.
“I was there for the people and we had a blast. That’s called rock and roll!”

Billy Ray’s performance, which has been described as “horrendous”, “disgraceful”, and “embarrassing” on social media, featured an abundance of technical difficulties that left the country star asking the audience if he should “get the hell off the stage”.
Other celebrities present for Trump’s inaugural celebrations included fellow country singer Carrie Underwood, who sang “America The Beautiful” at the US Capitol and who similarly experienced technical difficulties.
Underwood instead decided to sing the song acapella, without instrumental accompaniment.
